Oncotheis was awarded the 2015 Lush Science Prize,

recognising its unique human in vitro lung cancer model known as OncoCilAir™. The prize was presented in London at the Royal Institute of British Architects, during an unbelievable ceremony hosted by the English comedian Sara Pascoe and the amazing Dr. Bryan May, astrophysicist and lead guitarist of the rock band Queen!

This award strengthens our commitment to develop alternatives to animal testing through high-quality science.” said Samuel Constant, CEO of Oncotheis.

Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in the world, with an estimated 1.4 million deaths each year. In most patients, lung cancer is diagnosed at advanced stage resulting in an elevated death rate: eighty percent die within one year from being diagnosed. Despite extensive research on targeted and personalized therapies, this difficult therapeutic area still shows the highest failure rate in clinical trials. Human oriented models are clearly required to improve pre-clinical predictability.

The Lush Prize supports animal-free testing by awarding money prizes totalling £250,000 to the most effective projects and individuals who have been working towards the goal of replacing animals in medical or ingredient safety testing.
